Per-phase spatial correlated damage models of UD fibre reinforced composites using mean-field homogenisation; applications to notched laminate failure and yarn failure of plain woven composites

A micro-mechanical model for fibre bundle failure is formulated following a phase-field approach and embedded in semi-analytical homogenisation scheme. In particular mesh-independence consistency of energy release rate bundles matrix phase are ensured dominated failure. Besides, the cracking fibre-matrix interface debonding modelled through evolution damage variable framed an implicit non-local form. Considering material parameters both epoxy phases identified from manufacturer data sheets, it shown that strength ply loaded along longitudinal direction agreement with reported values. Finally, multi-damage framework applied to model, on one hand, notched laminate, which case modes observed be good experiments, and, other yarns plain woven composite unit-cell under uni-axial tension.
